This week for This Week-ish, I decided to record two different videos on two very different topics. You may be interested in one, the other, both, or neither, but if nothing else, this will confirm that we all can contain multitudes!

The video above is about redistricting, one of the stories dominating political news these days. As always I like to use this newsletter to talk about how I research and dig more deeply into stories. Neither the for-profit traditional media nor the algorithmically-driven social media platforms will do this for you. Sadly.

There are three key components I cover in this first video:

  1. Understanding what is actually going on, specifically, what is in the bill that California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom, is working to get in front of voters in November. [The creator I mention in the video with a tracking sheet for states and their gerrymandering potential is here: Erika Harrison, Black Girls Who Brunch.

  2. What are the parameters of a recent poll you may have seen touted in the news about how Californians like their independent commission for redistricting and don’t want to return it to the legislature.

  3. How do Californians feel about our Governor? What does the voting data say about how we feel about him, and why the “He’s not perfect, but…” messaging is irrelevant to the first two topics.

Have you been following this story?

And now for something completely different…my thoughts on the Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That, particularly its final wrap up after three seasons. This is 100% spoiler-full. Only watch if you’ve already watched it yourself, or don’t care enough not to have it spoiled.

I am seeing a lot of think pieces about the show that really aren’t resonating with me, so I’m curious what my own community thinks. (Or if you long ago stopped caring about the show…that’s interesting too!) I look forward to *your* thoughts.

Over on Optionality:
So much good stuff going on, including a brand new platform to be unveiled soon! We also have several events coming up:
August’s webinar features Dr. Natalie Nixon and her new book, Move. Think. Rest. She’s advocating for a whole new definition of “productivity,” and evangelizing rest as a key component of same. Join us on Wednesday August 27 at 12PM PT.
Save the Date: We have a September webinar coming soon, Tuesday, September 16 at 3PM PT. The topic? On September’s theme of Skills & Education, it’s all about identifying and closing any skills gap you may have.
Save the Date: Our next IRL event will be on Wednesday October 1, 4-7PM PT at the TransAmerica building in San Francisco (including a visit to the Sky Bar)! The topic? On October’s theme of Financial Literacy & Investment, it’s about assessing the money environment, identifying your money story, and making the most of what you have.

Thanks for reading This Week-ish with ElisaCP! This post is public so feel free to share it.
